the Isle of Guernsey depicted on the Sark 6d. value. She was built in 1930 by Win. Denny and Bros., Ltd., Dumbarton for the Southern Railway and is a twin-screw ship of 2,152 gross tons on dimensions 306 x 42.1 x 12.6 ft. She is fitted for oil fuel and has a speed of 191/2 knots. During the war the Isle of Guernsey was used as a hospital ship and was present at the Dunkirk evacuation. Later she became a target vessel for the Admiralty and in 1943 was converted to carry landing craft, taking Canadian forces to the Normandy beaches. She was the first Channel Islands vessel to resume regular service after the war, sailing on June 25, 1945.
