SHIP STAMP SOCIETY

SHIP STAMP SOCIETY

Interested in Ships and Stamps? The Ship Stamp Society is an international society and publishes it’s journal, Log Book, six time a year.

The editor of Log book will retire this coming August and, unless a new one comes forward, the society will close.
With this in mind, we are not taking in any new members.
This is an unfortunate situation but seemingly unavoidable.

The Russian 4 masted barque Kruzenstern appears on the 40c.stamp. There are apparently a number of ways of translating the Russian name into English Lloyd's Register gives it as Kru:enshern. She was formerly the Padua, built by J C. Tecklenborg at Wesermunde and launched on June 24, 1926. As the Padua she is shown on a German, 1973, 8 pf. stamp though the stamp itself does not give the barque's name. Launched by J. C. Tecklenborg at Wesermunde, June 24, 1926, she has a gross tonnage of 3,545, net 1,162. Length 375 ft. 8in.; breadth 47 ft. 7 in.; draft 23 ft. 6 in.; depth 27 ft. 1 lin. Auxiliary power: two oil engines, 2-stroke, single acting, each 8-cylinder, geared to screw shaft, giving a speed of 10% knots. These diesels were built by the Russki Diesel Works. She is now listed as an auxiliary training ship. Bermuda SG365. Marshall Is
