Dumont d'Urville

Dumont d'Urville and his flagship Astrolabe are seen on two stamps. This was the third ship of the name in the French Navy, built at Toulon in 1811 as the corvette Coquille, of 360 tons. She was renamed in 1825 for the expedition commanded by Dumont d'Urville in search of La Perouse remnants, hence her new name, Serving on the two voyages of Dumont d'Urville, the second in the Antarctic Ocean, 1837-1840, she was condemned in 1852.
