The 2 cents stamp shows Sir Thomas Warner and a typical 17th cent, ship-of-the-line, the name of which is not mentioned on the stamp design. Warner, a captain of King James l's bodyguard, was the first coloniser of West Indian islands. In 1623 he founded a colony on St. Kitts, was knighted in 1629, and in 1632 led the settlers to Antigua and Montserrat. In 1639 he formed a settlement on St. Lucia. He died in 1649. SG271
