The 15c. value of the Jamaica Mail Boats set depicts a vessel of the Royal Navy, N.M. brig-sloop Sheldrake, of 10 guns, one of the "Cherokee" class. A vessel of 228 tons builder's measurement, she was launched at Pembroke Dock on May 9. 1825. Her length was 90ft, beam 25ft., her armament being eight 18 pdrs. and two six-pounders At this period the Royal Navy used several ships on the mail runs. She was sold in 1855 per order dated March 1853.SG382
