The Ayesha, named after the favourite wife of Mohammed, was a 3-masted schooner used for carrying copra and was empty when taken over by the German shore party from the Emden, as they were unable to get back to their ship, which had steamed away from them at the approach of the Sydney.
In this vessel the landing party made their escape and remained in her until they met the Emden 's supply ship Choising some three weeks later. They sank the Ayesha and went aboard the Choisin , a Norddeutscher Lloyd steamer. In this vessel the Germans safely reached Turkey and then home.
