ENNA G, Nauru Pacific Line. Built by Schps., & Mach., "De Merwede", at Hardinxveld, Holland, in July, 1961, for the N.V. Nederl.-Amerik. Stoomv. Maats. (Holland-Amerika Lijn). Motorship ; 111 passenger capacity. Gross tonnage 9336; net 5056; dwt., 7763 tons. Length 456'1"; breadth 61'4"; draught 28'31/2"; depth 36'1". MAN diesels of 8600 b.h.p. Five holds and five hatches. Launched as the Prinses Margriet. Bought by the Nauru Pacific Line on August 6th, 1960 and renamed after the wife of a head chief of Nauru, Enna G. Gadabu. She now carries a crew of 88 (max); and 103 passengers, in air-conditioned cabins, all facing outboard, and has a swimming pool. Her route is outward from San Francisco to Honolulu; Majuro (Marshall Islands): Ponape (Micronesia). She also sails for Sydney from Apia. In 1974 a freight service was inaugurated by the ship. Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard no 547 by N.V. Scheepswerf en Machinefabriek “de Merwede” at Hardinxveld-Giesendam, Netherlands, for the Maatschappij Zeetransport (Oranje Lijn) at Rotterdam.
01 March 1960 keel laid down.
10 December 1960 launched under the name PRINCES MARGRIET, christened by, at that time Princess Beatrix now Queen Beatrix, The vessel was named after her sister, and the intention was that she would christen the vessel, but she was sick, and Beatrix took over. (Princess Margriet is the godchild of the Dutch Merchant Marine.)
Tonnage 9.336 gross, 5.056 net, 7.763 dwt., dim. 139.0 x 16.6 x 11.0m.
Powered by a Verolme-Man diesel engine, 8.600 hp, one screw, speed 17 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 111 passengers in one class.
5 Holds and 5 hatches.
Trials between 12 and 15 June 1961, and delivered to owners on 04 July 1961 at Rotterdam.

After a short coastal voyage to Hamburg and Antwerp, she sailed from Rotterdam for her first Atlantic crossing on 15 July 1961, and via Southampton and Le Havre to Montreal, where she arrived on 25 July.
From Montreal she sailed to the Great Lakes via the St Lawrence Seaways, her last port of call in the lakes was Chicago where she arrived on 4 August.
She was not a hit by the passengers and loading brokers in the service between Europe and the Great Lakes, she and her sister the PRINSES IRENE got to much passenger accommodation and not sufficient cargo space. and her last voyage in this service was on 03 April 1963 when she sailed from Rotterdam.

After her return in Rotterdam was she chartered by de Holland Amerika Lijn (HAL) at Rotterdam, for the liner service from Rotterdam to New York.

Autumn 1964 bought by the HAL.
When the HAL in the end of the sixties changed over to the full time cruising market, the PRINSES MARGRIET with her small passenger accommodation was not more usefull, her last voyage in the service was on 02 Dec. 1967.
The same year chartered by the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij (KNSM) for the service from New York to Curacao-Aruba-La Guaira and Trinidad.

At he same time the tiny island Nauru founded a shipping line, and was looking for suitable tonnage, special with large passenger accommodation, suitable to transport the many children, being sent to school in Australia each year.
PRINSES MARGRIET fitted the bill perfectly.

Bought in June 1970 by Nauru Pacific Line, and renamed ENNA G, named after the wife of a South Pacific Politician Enna G. Gadabau.
Used for the inter island trade, and occasional made voyages to Australia with school children, the only time her passenger capacity of 111 was fully used.
But when the airplanes took over this transport, the ENNA G her passenger accommodation was again too large.
After a refit in Japan, were her fore and main mast were removed, was she made suitable for the transport of containers. Two 10 tons cranes replaced her loading gear. Her decks and hatches reinforced for three high container stacking. Her passenger accommodation reduced to 103 passengers in one and two person cabins.
After her refit used in the service from Oahu-Majuro-Ponape-Truk-Saipan to San Francisco, her new service began fairly successfully as a cruise and cargo liner but after a few years when high fuel consumption and low cargo bookings, her cargo capacity was never fully booked, more fuel efficient vessels were taking most of the available cargo, she got a burden for the company.

1981 The ownership of the Nauru Pacific Line vessels were transferred from the Local Government Council of Nauru to the Nauru Corporation (Victoria) Inc. the ENNA G had to make herself economically accountable. This she failed to do and late 1983 she was laid up in de Majuro Atoll.

There were rumors that she would be converted to a full time cruising vessel, but the sale in 1989 to a Taiwan scrap yard laid this speculation to rest.
08 Sept. 1990 arrived by the scrap yard of Thap Sakae at Taiwan.
