Ballay

Post by shipstamps » Thu Aug 07, 2008 6:00 pm

The 130 f. stamp shows a rather primitive looking vessel, the Ballay, of 1891 She should have been the boat that served Jean Baptiste Marchand during his expeditions to the Sudan, from which the Fasjoda incident resulted. That was in 1898, just after the Battle of Omdurman. II any reader has any information on this vessel I should be very pleased to hear from him, or any information on the Bangui River vessel Flex of 1894, obviously a passenger vessel which travelled between the river port.
