Taisai Maru

The Taisai Maru, a 4masted barque built by the Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Ltd., at Kobe, for the Government, Ministry of Education, operated from of University, and registered at Tokio. Gross tonnage was 2,287 length 227 ft. 4 in., beam 42 ft. 9 in. and depth 21 ft. 4 in. Two auxiliary steam engines, triple-expansion type, gave her a speed of 10 knots. She was a transport in the Russo-Japanese War before taking over the duties for which she was built, and sailed as a training ship over 600,000 miles, her end coming during the last war when she struck a mine on October 9, 1945, in the Pacific. The correct name is TAISEI MARU.

09 October 1945 lost to a mine in the inner harbour of Kobe, Japan.
