The Ivan Franko was the first of six 20-knot liners of 19,860 gross tons to be built to Soviet order by V.E.B. Matthias-Thesen Werft, at Wismar in 1964. Dimensions of the ship are 576 ft. 5 in. x 77 ft. 4 in. x 26 ft. 2 in. draft. Primarily intended for pleasure cruising, the class are suitable for liner service, with one class of passengers. Built in 1963-'65 by V.E.B. Mathias Thesen Werft, Wismar, #125, for the Baltic Sea Shipping Co.
Passengership of the 'Poet' class, Gt:19,861(1974 Gt:20,064) Loa:176.10m.(578') B:23,70m. (77') draft:8,10m. (26.6') 7 cyl. Sulzer/Werkspoor diesel:21,000 bhp. 2 screws, 20 kn. pass:750 in 1 class, crew:220.
Early 1997 laid up, sold to Polluks Shipping, Kingstown, St. Vincent, renamed in FRANK.
Arrived on July 21 1997 at Alang and she was soon beached and broken up.
