Homeport Funafuti.

The Nivanga was originally called Nivanga I and was built in 1961 in Hong Kong's Wang Poh Shipyards as a training ship for the Gilbert and Ellice Islands (Solomon - Tuvalu) government.

January 1962 delivered to owners.

She was used for Gilbert-Ellice and Fiji Island service.
1989 Sold to the Consort Shipping Line. Ltd. at Suva, Fiji Islands.
1990 Sold to J.K F.Holding Ltd., renamed NIVANGA II.
June 1994 sold to Neil Carter & Irene Juni Wright (Great Barrier Shipping Ltd.) Used in the twice-weekly service with cargo and passengers from Auckland to the Great Barrier Island. Licensed to carry 200 tons of cargo and 100 deck-passengers. Tonnage given as 369 gross, 113 net.
06 September 1996 detained at Auckland by the Marine Safety Authority, because of numerous defects.

20 September 1997, advertised for sale by tender on as is, where is basis, either for scrapping or removal from the port of Auckland.

Marine News 1998/119 has the name NIVANGA I
Sold to B & B demolition Ltd. in Auckland, demolition began on November 1997 on the Marsden Wharf at Auckland and was completed in December 1997.
By a visit at Auckland in 1997 she was moored not far from the National Maritime Museum, in a laid up state, and at that time she carried the name NIVANGA without I or II.

Built in 1961 by Hong Kong & Whampoa Dock Co., Kowloon, #1010, for Government of Tuvalu, Funafuti.
