INTREPID HMS 1967

Built as an amphibious assault ship by John Brown, Clydebank for the Royal Navy.
19 December 1962 laid down.
25 June 1984 launched under the name HMS INTREPID (L11), one sister the FEARLESS.
Displacement 11.060 standard, 12.120 full load, dim. 185.5 x 24.4 x 6.2m. (draught), length bpp. 152.4m.
Powered by two English Electric steam turbines, 22.000 hp, two shafts, speed 21 knots.
Range 5.000 miles at 20 knots.
Armament: 2 – 40mm Bofors. 4 quadruple Seacat SAM launchers, could carry 5 helicopters.
Crew 580.
Could carry up to 700 troops, 15 tanks and up to 30 other vehicles, which can be landed by the four LCM in the dock and four LCVP on the davits.
The dock is on the rear of the vessel and is flooded by flooding down the stern to a draught of 9.8 meter.
11 March 1967 commissioned.

1981 Decommissioned but due to the Falkland War recommissoned 1982.
Sailed for the South Atlantic.
After the war she returned to the U.K.
Got an extensive refit after the war between 1984 -1985 at Devonport Dockyard, cost 28 million Pound.
Armament after refit: 2GE/GD – 20mm Mk 15 Vulcan Phalanx. 4 Oerlikon – 30mm., 2 – Oerlikon – 20mm.
Thereafter used as a training vessel at Dartmouth.
1991 Decommissioned and put in “extended readiness”, with a crew of 70 and to be ready for sea in 30 days.
31 August 1999 transferred to the Disposal and Reserve Ship Organization (DRSO) with a crew of 15 men, with ready for sea in nine moths.
Between 2000 and 2001 cannibalized, for disposal July 2001.
Laid up in the Fareham creek waiting for disposal.

2008 Sold to Leavesley International, Birkenhead for scrapping.
17 September 2008 arrived at Liverpool under tow for dismantling and recycling in the Canada Graving Dock, Birkenhead.
