Built as a passenger- cargo liner under yard no 215 by Caird and Co., Greenock for the P&O.
22 May 1879 launched under the name ANCONA, named after the Italian town Ancona.
Tonnage 3.081 gross, 1.965 net., dim. 380.9 x 38.3 x 26.0ft.
Powered by a two cylinder compound inverted steam engine, manufactured by the shipbuilder, 3.202 ihp., speed 12 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 130 first and 54 second class.
Building cost £85.127.
01 August 1879 delivered to owners.

Built for the liner service between the U.K. and the Far East.
29 Sept. 1899 sold for £6.000 to Hajee Cassum Joosub at Bombay, renamed TAHER.
22 March 1901 on a charter voyage for the P&O from Aden to Mauritius and loaded with salt and general cargo by entering Port Louis, Mauritius, she wrecked, with the loss of 20 persons.
