VIKING CHALLENGER

Built under yard No 950 by N.V. Scheepsbouwwerf Gebr. Pot at Bolnes, Netherland for Hospitaal Kerkschip “De Hoop”, Netherland.
12 December 1963 launched as DE HOOP (The Hope).
Tonnage 1.106 grt, 282dwt, dim. 63.46 x 10.32m.
Powered by one 12 cyl. Bolnes diesel, 900 hp. and one 200hp electro engine, when geared together on one shaft she could make a speed of 12 knots.
When her main engine was failing, she could still proceed on her electro engine.
Crew 24 men, one surgeon and a vicar.
14 April 1964 in service. Building cost 2.6 million Dutch guilders.

She was in use as a hospital church-ship for the Dutch fishing vessels in the Northsea.
Fitted out with a hospital with 12 berths, but she could handle 20 patients, and a church for 65 persons in the forepart of the ship, while a recreation room one deck higher did have place for 60 persons.
21 April 1964 she left for her first voyage under command of Captain W.F.Rog.
04 November 1988 she arrived for the last time in her homeport Scheveningen, and laid up on 26 November that year there.
She made average a distant of 23.000 mile a year in her 25 year in service as a hospital church-ship.

October 1989 was she moved to Heuvelman at Moerdijk, Netherland and she was sold on 04 December 1989 to Suffolk Marine Ltd. (Charles Lister) in Lowestoft, U.K. renamed in BRITANNIA DE HOOP.
She left Moerdijk under her own power for Great Yarmouth where she was converted to a safety standby vessel for the off-shore. Tonnage 999 grt.
April 1990 refit completed and she was transferred to Britannia Marine Ltd, (Charles Lister) and she was renamed in BRITANNIA CHALLENGER.
04 May 1990 she left for her first voyage as a safety standby vessel in the Northsea.
1994 Sold to Boston Putford Offshore Safety Ltd, Lowestoft, after her charter was completed in November 1998 was she sold to Viking Supply Ships Rederi A/S, Montrose, Scotland and renamed in VIKING CHALLENGER.
2003 Transferred to Blue Viking, Aberdeen and in 2005 to Viking Offshore, Aberdeen.
14 January 2008 registered under Panama flag, and renamed in TIMOR CHALLENGER.
She was then converted, with addition of two tall radio masts, for use in the film “The Boat that Rocked” a film of the pirate radio ship RADIO CAROLINE, that operated just outside UK waters in the 1960s.
2009 Is she owned by Timor Offshore Management Ltd., Nicosia, Cyprus, but according Equasis is her real owner Van der Linden en Vinckier, Schiedam, Netherlands. IMO No.6402901.

2009 So it looks that she now is chartered as a hospital ship by Panacea Onlus, and she is renamed in GANDALF PANACEA the web-site gives that name but not any name is visible on the ship depict.

2010 Owned by Wexford Shipping & Trading Inc,, Panama, not renamed.

06 January 2015 arrived at Aliaga, and was scrapped by Isiksan GS, work commenced on 07 January 2015.
