QAHIR AL AMWAJ (Q31)

Oman issued in 1993 a stamp for the Royal Navy of Oman Day of 100b which depict a missile corvette of the Oman Royal Navy, which at the issues of the stamp not was commissioned.
At that time two corvettes were ordered by Vosper Thornycroft (UK) Ltd., Woolston near Southampton, the QAHIR AL AMWAJ and the AL MUA’ZZAR., and one of this corvettes is showed on the stamp, which is depict is not known, but most probably the QAHIR AL AMWAJ, her sister was not even on the building blocks when the stamp was issued.

QAHIR AL AMWAJ.

21 May 1993 keel laid down.
21 September 1994 launched under the name QAHIR AL AMWAJ (Q31).
Displacement 1.200 tons standard, 1.450 tons full load, dim. 83.7 x 11.5 x 7.2m., length bpp. 76m., draught 4.7m.
Powered by four medium speed V 16-cyl. Crossly Pielstick 16PA 6v-280STC diesel engines 28.160bhp., twin shafts, speed 28 knots.
Armament: 1 -76mm Oto Melare 62 Supper gun. Missiles; 8 – MM40 Exocet SSM. 8_cell Crotale SAM.
Crew 80.
04 September 1996 completed.

AL MUA’ZZAR.

04 April 1994 keel laid down.
26 September 1995 launched under the name AL MUA’ZARR (Q32).
13 April 1997 completed.

Details and armament the same as her sister.

2009 Both corvettes still in service by the Royal Oman Navy.
