A most attractive and simply designed stamp was issued by Lundy Island, the local postal service which carries the mail from the island off the South Wales coast to the mainland, the stamp showing an old Trinity House vessel, the supply tender Vestal. She was in service from 1850 to 1900. This iron-hulled Paddle & wheel steamer was built by the Trinity House Corporation in London, her engines of 245 nhp being built also in London by J. She had oscillating engines of two cylinders 48 in. diameter and 48 in. stroke. The Vestal had a gross tonnage of 843 tons; net 207, her length being 109 ft 2 in.; beam 17 ft. 9 in. depth 13 ft. 1 in.
