The class is known as the Optimist class a small yacht for young yachtsmen or women, and many famous yachtsmen or women got their first training in the Optimist.

Each nation which participated in this race, travels to Uruguay with a team of 5 yachtsmen/women; the participants can not be older than 15 years.

The Optimist match-race at Puerto de Buceo is very large and simultaneous 15 races are kept in adjacent waters of the YCU, also other activities will take place for the teams.

To point out the magnitude of the Optimist World Cup races, the organized yacht club, had under their responsibility the fitting out of 250 new and equal yachts, with her basic equipment to be given to the competitors.

As is logical to suppose, the races will generated a great expectation, round this important event, and it will be interesting to observe along the coast the progress of the races with young children even under the age of 10 years, who has left the port with confidence in his/her nautical abilities and knowledge to races against adversary opponents, permanently making decisions what is needed to win the race.

For the sport and special for Uruguay it is a very important event, and a true challenge and a simultaneously and magnificent opportunity to make a beautiful tourist attractions of the natural beauties of Uruguay.

It will be without doubt a true nautical celebration.
