VICTOR CLASS SUBMARINE

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Nov 17, 2009 7:36 pm

The Soviet nuclear attack submarine type 671 or Shchuka (Pike), by NATO forces as Victor I class were all built on the Admiralty Shipyard in St Petersburg for the Soviet Navy.
The first unit K 38 was completed in 1967 and the last in 1974, altogether 16 were built.

The submarine depict on the stamp is one of the Victor I class.
Displacement 4.100 tons surfaced, 6.085 tons submerged. Dim. 92.5 x 11.7 x7.3m. (draught)
Powered by 2 VM-4T PW reactors, powering 1 OK-300 steam turbine, 31.000 shp. ,one five-blade propeller, speed 12 knots surfaced, and 32 knots dived.
The type was also fitted with two two-blade creep propellers.
Armament: 2 Tsakra nuclear anti submarine missiles, 6 – 533mm, 2 – 406mm torpedo tubes. Could carry 18 torpedoes.
Crew 100.

This class of boats was designed mainly for the protection of convoys and to attack enemy ballistic-missile submarines.
A teardrop-hull design gave them increasing speed.
She was the fastest pressurized-water reactor-powered submarines afloat.
The class was very noisy and when the Soviets found out that this class easily could be tracked by NATO forces, production was halted.
The class was used in the Pacific Fleet and the Northern Fleet of the Soviets.

So far I could find out all of the class has been decommissioned, and most are in reserve.
