The 80 cent value of the 1986 Anguilla "Christmas". issue features the full-rigged ship "WEST DERBY" which was built at Liverpool in 1855 by a builder named Chalour.
She was a wooden ship of 820 net tons at that time.
Although the "WEST DERBY" was listed as a "Harrison Line" ship her registered owners in 1862 were "Browne & Co", and at that time she was trading to Calcutta.
In 1874 her registered owners were T & J Harrison, but by 1876 her registered owners were J. Brown & C.F. Lamb.
She was registered at Liverpool and measured 161.5ft x 33.6ft x 22ft. Her signal letters were "H.J.P.W." The Harrison Brothers were partners with a George Browne until he died in 1853 and after this the Firm became known as the "T & J Harrison Line".
In 1876 the ship was converted to Barque-Rig and late in that year, or early in 1877, the Barque was sold to
L. Larsen of Kragero, Norway, where she was registered under the name "OCEAN".
She was still registered as the "OCEAN", and under the same ownership, in 1883, but a year or two later she disappears from Lloyd's Register. In 1883 her net and gross tonnages were both 848 tons, and her underdeck tonnage was 755 tons. She had a small poop deck which measured 6 tons.
