Fishery Patrol Boat WAVE DANCER was built by VT Halmatic at Porchester near Portsmouth, England. (Year not known)
The fisheries patrol vessel WAVE DANCER underwent sea trials on 6th January 2006 in the Solent off Portsmouth Harbour. She was put through her paces, achieved her maximum speed of 29.5 knots (2800 rpm) with good maneuverability, and maintained a comfortable 24 knots cruising speed at 2400 rpm. WAVE DANCER has been undergoing extensive refurbishment at the VT Halmatic shipyard in Portchester where she was originally built. Modifications include replacement engines, and the fitting of stern drives which can be tilted to enable the vessel to enter the shallow water in Calshot Harbour, Tristan da Cunha, at low tide. During the works, both Joseph Green and Nigel Lavarello of Tristan's Public Works - Mechanical - Department underwent training attachments arranged by the shipyard. The WAVE DANCER was due to be transported back to Tristan during 2006 to resume her essential work thanks to the Falkland Islands Company, which own and manages the Portsmouth Ferry Company.
