SHIP STAMP SOCIETY

SHIP STAMP SOCIETY

Interested in Ships and Stamps? The Ship Stamp Society is an international society and publishes it’s journal, Log Book, six time a year.

The editor of Log book will retire this coming August and, unless a new one comes forward, the society will close.
With this in mind, we are not taking in any new members.
This is an unfortunate situation but seemingly unavoidable.

L'Astrolobe

Just putting a collection together for 2 French ships of this name - The first was the one used by La Perouse for his exploration voyage, the second used by d'Urville for his 2 voyages.
Perouse's ship was wrecked on the Solomon Islands in 1788. d'Urville's ship was broken up in France in 1851.
Looking at Tonga's 1987 issue commemorating d'Urville voyages, the last stamp in the set shows ''L'Astrolobe'' being wrecked. This sort of implies that it was d'Urville ship that was wrecked, but in fact it was Perouse's ship. Was this a Tongan error.....or are there more subtitle for this stamp being included in the set ? I wonder.........
