GLORIA Tall Ship

Built as a steel training vessel for the Columbian Navy by Astilleros y Talleres Celaya S.A., Bilbao, Spain.
02 December 1967 launched under the name GLORIA.
Displacement 1.300 ton. Gross tonnage 937 ton. Dim. 76.00 x 10.60 x 4.20m., length of hull 64.60m. Length bpp. 56.10m., draught 4.50m.
Carried 23 sails and is barque rigged, sail area 1.250m².
Powered by a Naval Stork RHO-216 diesel, 530hp., speed 10 knots.
Bunker capacity 23.330 liter, and 53-ton fresh water.
Actie radiuas of 60 days at sea.
Carried a figurehead of the winged female Gloria, with in one hand a laurel wreath, and in the other the law of Immorality.
Accommodation for 9 officers, 5 teachers, 30 petty officers, 21 crew and 80 cadets.
07 September 1968 handed over to the Columbian Navy. Homeport Cartagena.

Her basis design is after the German sailing vessel GORCH FOCK (I) with alternations on her stern and superstructure, which looks more as a modern vessel.
A model of her was tested before building in the wind-tunnel of the National Institute of Technical Aeronautic in Madrid.

After completing used as a training vessel and as a floating overseas ambassador for Columbia.
03 January 1970 sailed from Cartagena to circumnavigate the world.
1971 - 1975 Mostly used for voyages in the Caribbean.
1980 Was one of the Tall Ships at Sail Amsterdam, 1982 Philadelphia, 1983 Osaka.
1984 Took part in the Tall Ship race from Puerto Rico to Bermuda and Halifax.
1986 At New York in Operation Sail
1988 Took part in Australia’s bicentenary celebrations and in the regatta from Hobart to Sydney.
The same year took part in the celebrations of the French Revolution in Rouen.
1989 Sail Hamburg.
1990 Sail Amsterdam.
1992 Took part in the Columbus regatta.
After 1992 takes part in many Tall Ships festivities and regattas.
2005 Still in use as a training vessel by the Colombian Navy, IMO No. 8642555.

The warship on the Colombia stamp is the CALDAS (FM 52)
