KETTUVALLAM

KETTUVALLAM: Used in south-west India, the type was used from about 3000 BC for the transport of rice and other products in the backwaters of the Kerala coast of India.
Plank sewn together with coir; double ended. Central part covered by a rounded mat-roofed house.
Length between 6 – 18 metre, beam 1.6 – 2.0 metre, depth to 2.4 metre.
The Kettuvallam depict on the stamp is a modern type and used for the tourist market, and more used as a house-boat made of fibre-glass.
The photo shows the type almost the same as shown on the stamp.
