Highflyer 1851

HIGHFLYER. Wooden Steam Frigate. 21 guns. Built in 1851 at Blackwall, London. 1153tn bm. L192'. B36'6". Dr28'8". Armed with One 10". Twenty 8" guns. She is one of the vessels shown on the stamp at

Port Royal in 1853. She was broken up at Portsmouth in 1871 - Jamaica 1919. 6d. SG98a. De Landre Label. NC (LB4/80. 13/485. EWA Vo11. p20)

The Royal Museums, Greenwich has this description of the print:

"numerous British ships moored there. The 'Cumberland' is shown in the foreground on the right. The prints is inscribed above: 'View of the town and harbour of Port Royal in Jamaica, taken from sea.' Inscribed below the image: 'No 1 Alban, 4 guns. No 2 Geyser, 6 guns. No 3 Devastation, 6 guns. Commander Algernon F R De Horsey. No 4 Highflyer, 21 guns. Capt John Moore. No 5 Imaum, 72 guns. Commander George Snell. No 6 Daring, 12 guns. Commander Gerard J Napier. No 7 Persian, 12 guns. No 8 Buzzard, 6 guns. Commander Wm H Dobbie. No 9 Cumberland, 70 guns. Admiral "Play Ship - Capt George H Seymour".'
