The Tuvalu post stamp depicts a hand-carved model of the “Paopao” canoe built on islands.Single- outrigger canoe used for lagoon fishing and transportation. Slight differences between northern and southern island types. Built with short planks sewn together onto a dugout base. Sharp ends; bottom rounded in cross section and longitudinally. Decked at ends. . Vertical cutwater in the north, shallower in the central islands, and bow pointed in the south. Stern drawn out to a point. Three straight booms extended to the float. Float toes in at the forward end. Light platform across the booms. . Claimed length 4.1-5.4 m; on Wightupu Island: length 4.6 m, width 0.33 m, depth 0.38 m.
