BRITISH WEST INDIAMAN

This nameless British West Indiaman of 1840 depicts on this stamp of Grenada, barque rigged is from the later part of the 18th and early 19th centuries that sailed between Europe and the Caribbean. She is smaller than the East Indiaman, and since they carried perishable goods were generally faster.
Many British West Indiaman was built in the United States and were mostly barque rigged with square sails on the fore and mainmasts, gaff mizzen with a square topsail.
Multiple jibs to a long rising bowsprit.
Some were armed.
Tonnage 300 – 500 ton.
