The Dutch KNRM and the KSV SCHUTTEVAER

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Apr 23, 2021 7:27 pm

Two stamps issued in 1999 designed by De Designpolitie in Amsterdam are dedicated to jubilees in the Dutch shipping world:

The Royal Dutch Rescue Company (KNRM) and Royal Skippers Association “Schuttevaer”.
The KNRM will be celebrating its 175th anniversary on 11 November 1999. She covers 50 lifeboats spread over 37 rescue stations along the North Sea coast, Ijsselmeer and Zeeland waters. The boats are manned by 700 volunteers and 12 professional rescuers who are available 24 hours a day.

KSV “Schuttevaer” celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. It is an umbrella interest association that issues advice for safe inland shipping, among other things. The designers have portrayed the practice of both professional groups in a graphic manner.
On the stamp of the KNRM, the lifeboat braves the fierce waves and the impending storm.

At the KSV “Schuttevaar” stamp, silhouettes of cargo ships sail through graphic channels. The boats sail from one stamp to the stamp next to it. So a whole procession of boats sails over a sheet with 100 stamps. Netherlands Water land

Not a name is given for the lifeboat and inland cargo vessel, but in the same magazine was later given.
In the middle of the Ijsselmeer, a stone's throw away from the port of Urk was recently baptized in a special way with two new stamps. The rescue boat KONINGIN BEATRIX and the inland waterway vessel NOCOTRANS had come close to one another especially for this occasion. While the two ships came alongside each other, two 80 cent stamps were pasted onto an envelope from one ship that was carried on the other ship.
Queen Beatrix is the patroness of the KNRM, and I believe that this two ships haven been used for the design.

Of the lifeboat KONINGIN BEATRIX I found the following details.
The KONINGIN BEATRIX was the first large Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) of the Johannes Frederick class that the KNRM had built in 1984. The 12.70 meter long RIB was built at Mulder & Rijke in IJmuiden. Powered by two 305 hp Perkins diesels, the water jets achieved a top speed of 26 knots. 16 knots faster than the conventional lifeboats of the time. In 1984 the Dutch Queen baptized the KONINGIN BEATRIX. The lifeboat started at the Work Island Neeltje Jans https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neeltje_Jans and proved to be safe even with wind force 10. (The rescue station is in the village Burghsluis.)
The KONINGIN BEATRIX was stationed in Urk in 1996 and taken out of service on 10 February 2008, she is sold but can’t find her fate.

Of the inland barge there is given, built as a cargo-container vessel in 1995 by the yard of Remontowa Stocznia Rzeczna, Wroclaw, Poland for Nocotrans Vof, Delfzijl, Netherlands.
