The passenger/cargo ship Vietnam Heroico, (ex-Prins der Neder/andenj built in 1957 at Rotterdam by NV. Mch. and Schps. P. Smit, Jr., for the Royal Netherlands Steamship Company, of Amsterdam. She is a motorship and was bought in 1973 by Cuba's Empresa Navegacion Mainbisa and renamed. Port of registry is Havana. Gross tonnage is 7,552; net 3,955 and deadweight 4,911, while dimensions are 43 ft. 7 in., breadth 56 ft. 8 in., and draft 22 ft. 81/4 in. There is accommodation for 218 passengers, and five holds and five hatches. Power is by a Smit diesel of 4,500 b.h.p. and she has a speed of 15 knots. SG2322

Built in 1956-'57 by N.V. Scheepswerf & Machinefabriek P. Smit Jr., Rotterdam, #618, for the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij (KNSM) Amsterdam as PRINS DER NEDERLANDEN, launched 14-03-'57, delivery date 03-09-'57.
Passenger/cargo ship, Gt:7552, Nt:3955, Dw:4911, Loa:131,70m. Lbpp:125,40m. B:17,30m. Depth:9,22m. Draught:6,90m. 6 cyl. B&W/ P. Smit diesel:4500 hp. 15½ kn.
pass: 1st class:116, tourist class:68, IMO.5285148.
Service Netherlands - Caribbean Sea.
On 31-08-'66, during a trip from Amsterdam to Kingstown, at Flores (Azores) jammed and severely damaged, which inundated the engine room, the passengers were disembarked and the ship was towed to Fayal and temporairly repaired.
She arrived in Amsterdam in October and repaired, pass:85 in 1 class.
07-'72 she made her last trip for the KNSM and layd up, 01-'73 sold to Empresa de Navigación Mambisa and renamed HERÓICO, later VIETNAM HERÓICO.
On 01-10-'84 she capsized at the wharf in Havana and total-loss.
In '86 transferred to the Cuban Navy and ther were some repairs done, '91 under the name MAISI sold for scrap to India.
Sister ship ORANJE NASSAU, renamed XX ANIVERSARIO, also scrapped in India.
