SHIPS OF THE SOUTHERN painting

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Oct 24, 2021 7:53 pm

Taiwan issued in 2021 a set of four stamps with paintings of which the $12 shows us a painting with ships from the Taipei City Museum of Art "Ship of the Southland". The vessel on the painting is of the “junk” type.

The gouache on paper was painted in 1941.

Huang Ching-shan "Ship of the Southland" (face value 12 yuan): The painting depicts a canal in Fucheng, Tainan depicting the scene of people taking a leisurely rest on the deck of a ship. The whole picture is almost ochre as the main tone with a lot of white space, and the atmosphere of the artwork is dominated by the brownish-red sails, leaving much of the painting white. The air is peaceful, simple, and restful.
