ROBERT & ELLEN ROBSON lifeboat

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Mar 18, 2022 7:12 pm

In 1999 Ireland issued four stamps which depict ships of which SG collect Ships on stamps give for three the name only the 45p. which shows us an R.N.L.I lifeboat is not named, SG gives only that she is a Cromer class lifeboat.
I could not find a “cromer class” lifeboat by the R.N.L.I. so I believe that is not correct.
I believe she is the self-righter pulling lifeboat ROBERT & ELLEN ROBSON a Dungeness Class lifeboat designed by Rubie, sometimes also a “Rubie class” named. The designer of the boat was also a surveyor by the R.N.L.I.
1918 Built by the Thames Ironworks & Shipbuilding Company, Blackwall as a self-righter pulling lifeboat for the R.N.L.I.
Launched as the ROBERT & ELLEN ROBSON.
Dim. 10.36 x 2.44m.
After completing based at Tramore, Co. Waterford, Ireland from 1918 till 1923.
1924 – 1939 stationed in Aberdeen, where she saved 21 lives.
1947 – 1957 stationed in Whitby.
1957 Retired.
July 2001 was put on display at the Whitby Lifeboat Museum.
2022 Is still on display there.
