Five hundred years ago, Gustav Vasa bought ten armed ships from Lübeck, which were delivered on June 7, 1522, at Slätbaken outside Söderköping, and thus the Swedish Navy was born. The stamps depict boats from the past and the future, The Swedish admiral’s swallowtail flag with tongue, and the Navy’s coat of arms.
The mini sheet is illustrated with objects and activities with a marine connection.

Lybska Svan (1522)
A wooden sailing ship of which not much is known on her details, she was built in Lübeck, and from 1522 till 1524 was she the largest vessel in the Swedish fleet.
The LYBIAN SWAN ("The Swan from Lübeck") was Gustav Vasa 's flagship . It was purchased from Skipper Hans Tidemann at Lübeck in September 1522 for 7,600 Lübeck Mark, of which only 402 Mark was paid, and arrived together with other purchased ships from Lübeck to Slätbaken on 7 June. The day is usually considered the Swedish navy's birthday.
The ship participated in the Swedish-Lübeck fleet's fire assessment of Bornholm in early August 1522, and the burning of Elsinore on 23 August. During the first half of 1523, the ship participated in the siege and conquest of Stockholm and it was from LYBSKA SVAN that Gustav Vasa had his first royal letter issued to the capital to capitulate on 17 June.
She leaked on the voyage from Gotland and was grounded at Horn on northern Öland around 01 October 1524.
Some equipment; guns and anchors were salvaged, but the ship was lost.
