667 corvette of Type 056A of Chinese navy

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Jul 04, 2022 9:05 pm

Hong Kong issued one MS for the 25th Anniversary of the Stationing of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Hong Kong. Hong Kong post gives the following info by the MS. The vessel depict in the margin with pennant no 667 is one of the newest of Type 056A, of which I could not find much on the internet. Below is given what the Hong Kong Post gives at the issues.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison (the Hong Kong Garrison) is stationed by the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for defense duties. Since its stationing in the HKSAR on 1 July 1997, the Hong Kong Garrison has adhered to the guiding principle of "One country, two systems", the Basic Law, the Garrison Law, and the National Security Law and fulfilled the responsibility to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, providing the foundation for the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. In 2017, a stamp sheetlet was issued to celebrate the stationing of the Hong Kong Garrison for 20 years. This year, Hongkong Post issues a stamp sheetlet on the theme of "The 25th Anniversary of the Stationing of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong" to mark this special occasion.

Acknowledgment: The Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison

The stamp presents the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Exhibition Center located at Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks which was opened on 8 July 2021. Shown on the lower part of the stamp is the strong and gallant Guard of Honour formed by the three forces, featuring the significance of the Hong Kong Garrison, the only garrison of the Chinese People's Liberation Army comprising units from the army, the navy, and the air force.
The stamp sheetlet also displays the new equipment of the Hong Kong Garrison, including Z-8 helicopter in the middle, the Type 056A corvette on the right side, and the Type 08A wheeled armored vehicle on the bottom right corner, etc. Being approachable and caring, the Hong Kong Garrison is carrying on the great traditions of the people’s military and has upheld the principle of serving people wholeheartedly, assisting the public, and contributing to Hong Kong society through various activities.

I found this on the net about the new Type 056A corvettes.
In late 2021 Beijing deployed a pair of new Type 056A corvettes bearing the hull numbers 666 and 667 to Hong Kong to replace the existing early model Type 056 corvettes Qinzhou and Huizhou, which have for some eight years formed the core of the PLA Navy’s modest contingent based in the former British colony.
The new warships, unlike their predecessors, have substantial anti-submarine capabilities in the form of both towed array and variable depth sonars. In addition to mounting anti-submarine sensors, the ships feature armament that includes a 76-millimeter gun, two 30-millimeter cannons, and YJ-83 anti-shipping cruise missiles.
According to some local reports, corvette 666 bears the name Suqian. If these reports are correct, it indicates that the ship has been allocated a name previously assigned to an early model Type 056, which has probably, like other older ships of the class, been converted to a patrol ship and transferred to the China Coast Guard.
Analysts are speculating that this modernization of Hong Kong’s naval flotilla might indicate Beijing’s belief that the Special Administrative Region has increased strategic relevance at a time when tensions over Taiwan, and Asia’s seaways, are continuing to rise.

The last corvette commissioned is a variant called Type 056A specialized in anti-submarine warfare and easily distinguishable thanks to its large opening at the stern for a towed sonar.
The vessel, measuring 88.9 meters in length and 11.14 meters in draft, displaces 1,370 tons full load. Its CODAD propulsion system allows the ship to sail in excess of 25 knots, with an economic endurance of 2,000 nautical miles and a crew of 67 sailors.
On the combat systems side, the ship is fitted with an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) combat and communication suite, ASROC missiles, anti-submarine grenades, light torpedoes and a towed sonar, as well as a H/PJ-26 76mm main gun, two H PJ-17 30mm CIWS and one eight-tube HQ-10 missile launcher.

Type 056 corvettes
This class of corvette, designed for the protection of China’s littorals and exclusive economic zones despite its relatively small size, is the first to be fitted with the modified version of the ZKJ-5 combat and command system. This CMS can be integrated with other command systems of the PLAN, turning the Type 056A into one of the information and combat unit nodes in the “System”. They are replacing several types of patrol ships like the Type 053H “Jiangsu I”.
The procurement cost of a Type 056A corvette is more than 700 million yuan (about $102 million USD) at today’s exchange rate, slightly more expensive than the baseline version of the corvette, the Type 056.
