GROSSE JACHT (1679–1721)
The GROSSE JACHT was built in 1678-1679 at the Gillis C. Peckelhering shipyard in Kolberg , based on a yacht owned by the Dutch governor Prince Willem III. of Orange. She was considered a good sailor and was initially stationed in the Baltic Sea port of Pillau . From there she made trips to Amsterdam in 1693, to the Lower Rhine, to Emden and later to London. The yacht reached Berlin in 1698 via the Elbe and Havel, before returning to Emden in 1700. There she remained, flying the flag of the Kingdom of Prussia from 1701 until she was sold in 1721, later scrapped.
An image of the ship has survived, based on a painting by the Dutch painter Lieve Verschuier, which depicts the electoral fleet in 1684. In the painting, the GROSSE YACHT is in the center of the picture.
