Orient is a 118-gun Ocean-class battleship of the French Navy, one of the largest sailing ships in history. "Orient" was the flagship of the French fleet at the Battle of Aboukir in August 1798, and was lost in the explosion of powder magazines. This event was immortalized in painting and literature .

In 1798, Orient became the flagship of the squadron, under the command of Admiral de Bruyes , sent to transport French troops to Egypt . The ship was commanded by Captain Kazabianka . The leadership of the expeditionary army, in particular its commander-in-chief Napoleon Bonaparte, also went on the ship. The fleet successfully avoided meeting the British squadron blockading the French coast, and captured Malta, after which it headed to land troops in Egypt. After the landing, Orient, along with the entire fleet, anchored in a bay east of Alexandria, in what was believed to be a strong defensive position. Nelson's English squadrondiscovered the French fleet on August 1, and attacked the French the next day. Nelson fought the battle by sending his ships between the shore and the French ships, destroying them one by one in the crossfire. Orient eventually came under fire from five ships at once, caught fire, and exploded at 10:30 p.m.
The French commander, Admiral Bruet, who was on Orient, had been killed by a cannonball earlier, and was already dead when his flagship exploded; Captain Kazabianka died.
