Built for the White Star Line and passed under Cunard Line ownership when the two companies consolidated on May 10, 1934. Used solely for cruising while under Cunard-White Star ownership. She was damaged in a collision with the Compagnie des Transport's Formigny off Cape Finisterre, Portugal, on September 5, 1935, but was able to make the port of Vigo, Spain, for temporary repairs.
Upon arrival at home it was decided that she be sold for scrap since no real use could be found for her. She was the only turbine-driven liner ever built for the White Star Line and was a very handsomely plain ship. Sold to John Cashmore, shipbreakers, at Newport, Wales, and left Tilbury dock, London, on October 7, 1935, for the yards.

She was specially built for the service across the North Atlantic from Liverpool to ports on the St Lawrence River.
08 June 1923 she sailed for her maiden voyage from Liverpool via Belfast to embark a large quantum of Irish immigrants with destination Quebec and Montreal.
1930 passenger accommodation modernized and she could now carry 320 cabin, 675 tourists and 537 third-class passengers.
27 May 1932 she made her last crossing in this service and laid up the next winter in Liverpool.
The next spring used as a cruise vessel from Liverpool, first under the White Star Line thereafter under Cunard White Star Line.
