ALEKSANDR PUSHKIN passenger vessel 1965

Built as a passenger liner under yard No. 126 by the Mathias-Werft at Wismar (at that time East Germany) for the U.S.S.R, managed by the Baltic Steamship Company, Leningrad (St Petersburg.).
26 March 1964 launched under the name ALEXSANDR PUSHKIN also given as ALEKSANDR PUSHKIN. Four sisters, IVAN FRANKO, TARAS SHEVCHENKO, SHOTA RUSTAVELI and MIKHAIL LERMONTOV, all named after Russian poets.
Tonnage 19.861 gross, 10.421 net, 5.180 dwt., dim. 176.28 x 23.63 x 13.49m., draught 8.2m., length bpp. 155m.
Powered by two 7-cyl Werkspoor-Sulzer Bros-H. Cegielski engines, 21.000 bhp., twin screws, speed 20.5 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 130 first class and 620 tourist class passengers. Crew 380.
Ice strengthened.

She was built for the liner service from Leningrad to Montreal, but could also be used as troopship when the need arose, she did have huge storage spaces.
One of her first voyages she made was with 600 French tourists from Le Havre to Leningrad in order to attend the 1965 May Day celebrations in Moscow.
13 April 1966 she sailed for her first voyage from Leningrad via Helsinki-Copenhagen-London across the North Atlantic to Quebec and Montreal.
She arrived there with on board 7 first class and 29 tourist class passengers 14 days later.
She made five further voyages before the end of the year, but when the St Lawrence due to ice was closed she was laid up.
1967 Bremen as port of call was substituted for Copenhagen; her first sailing from Bremen was on 17 April 1967.
1969 Le Havre was included as a port of call.
1971 She calls not more at Helsinki and Quebec.
1972 The company was restyled in Baltic Shipping Company.
1973 Fitted out with stabilization fins, and a one-class vessel 750 passengers.
From 1975 mostly used for cruise voyages.
1977 Received extensive refurbishment.
1985 Transferred to the Far East Shipping Co., Vladivostok. She sailed for the last time from Tilbury near London on 03 August 1984 for a 42-night cruise to the Far East and Japan.
In the end of 1984 used for cruising from Australia.
1989 When she needed urgent modernization, she was put on the sale list by her owners.
1991 Renamed in ALEXSANDR.
The same year sold to Shipping and General Services Ltd., London and renamed MARCO POLO.
Already the same year sold to Fiducia Shipping Co. S.A., Bahamas, managed by Orient Lines, London
02 June 1991 she arrived at Syros for a 60 million USA Dollar modernization and repair period, with the intention to rebuild her in a cruise vessel before the season of 1993.
A new deck was added to the top of the superstructure, which has also been extended further aft.
New tonnage given as 22.080 gross, 9.081 net, 5.180 dwt.
She has now accommodation in 450 cabins for up to 850 passengers, 350 crew.
February 1994 circumnavigated Antarctica.
1998 Sold to Ocean World Limited (Norwegian Cruise Line), not renamed. Equasis gives sold to Orient Line

March 2008 Sold to Story Cruise Ltd, Liberia not renamed. Managed by Global Cruise Lines Ltd. Piraeus, Greece. She still sails under the flag of the Bahamas.
2016 In service same name and owners.
