Princess Royal HMS (1911)

HMS PRINCESS ROYAL. Battle cruiser of Lion class.
Built by Vickers, laid down 2nd. May 1910. Launched 29th April 1911 and completed November 1912 at a cost of £2,089. First commissioned 14th November 1912 for 1st. C.S. in January 1913, then joining the 1st Battle Cruiser Squadron at outbreak of W.W.1. Present at Battle of Heligoland Bight on 28/8/14.
From 1915 to 1918 was flagship of 1st B.C.S., taking part in Dogger Bank action on 24/1/15.
At Jutland received 2 hits forward 10 minutes after action opened. A Shell in the Admirals cabin caused casualties to 4" crews in “X” turret, killing 4 men.
From 1919 to 1920 served with 1st. B.C.S., discarded under Washington Treaty, and sold December 1926.
