HMS MAGICIENNE. Medea class second class cruiser. Built by Fairfields, Govan. Completed 1889, 2950 tons. 265ft. x 41ft. x 16ft. 2 shaft. 20 knots. Armament 6-6 inch BLR, 9-6 pdr. QF, 1-3 pdr QF. 3 MGs, 2TT. Sold 1905.

6 boilers, compound engine:9000 hp. bunkers:400 tons, crew:218, 1905 scrapped.

Built as a 2nd protected class cruiser under yard No328 by Fairfield Shipbuilding Comp., Govan, Scotland for the Royal Navy.
10 August 1887 keel laid down.
12 May 1988 launched as the HMS MAGICIENNE one of the Marathon class.
Displacement 2,960 ton, dim. 80,77 (bpp) x 12.80 x 5.03m. (draught)
Powered by 6-cyl. horizontal direct acting compound steam engine, 9,000 ihp, twin shafts, speed 20 knots.
Bunker capacity 400 ton coal.
Armament 6 – 6 inch, 9 – 6 pdr. QF, 1 – 3 pdr. QF guns, 3 Machine guns, two torpedo tubes.
She was sheated in wood and copper for service in tropical waters.
Crew 218.
11 February 1889 completed.
1890 – 1891 She was based at the South Africa Station.
1891 – 1896 Based at the North America and West Indies Station.
1896 – 1897 Based at Devonport.
26 June 1897 was she present at the Naval Review at Spithead in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.
1897 – 1901 Based again at the South Africa Station.
1901 Decommissioned.
11 July 1905 sold for demolition.
