Built as a shallow draught frigate at the Djurgårdsvarvet at Stockholm for the Skärgårdsflottan.
Designed and built by Fredrik Henrik af Chapman.
1790 Launched as STYRBJØRN one of the Hameenmaa (hemmema) class
Displacement 600 tons, dim. 43.35 x 10.69 x 2.97m. (draught).
Ship rigged.
Armament 24 – 36 pdr., 2 – 12 pdr. guns and 8 swivel guns.
Could also be rowed by 20 oars each side with a length of 40 ft.
Crew 342.

After completing stationed in Sveaborg fortress near Helsinki
During the Russian- Swedish War 1788 – 1790 used as flagship.
1808 When Russian forces captured the fortress she was seized.
Recaptured after a heavy battle on the night of 18 August 1808 by Swedish forces by 24 boats crewed by 124 men.
1809 She sank in Jungfrusund.

Finland 1937 3½m + 35p sg314, scottB26. (Inscription on the stamp gives ‘hameenmaa’ Stanley Gibbons give that the STRYBJØRN is depicted.)
