LESNOE ship-of-the-line 1718

The stamp issued by the Republic Malagasy of 80fmg with the ships-name LESNOIE is actually the LESNOE of the Imperial Russian Navy.
She was built as a 1st Rate ship-of-the-line in St Petersburg for the Russian Imperial Navy, and it is said that Tsar Peter I was the designer of the ship.
07 November 1714 keel laid down.
29 July 1718 launched under the name LESNOE, the name commemorated a major land victory against the Swedes in 1708
Tonnage 1,100 tons, dim. 161 x 46 x 21.6ft.
Armament: Lower deck 26 or 28 – 24 pdr., middle deck 28 – 18 pdr. upper deck 28 – 8 pdr. guns. Forcastle and quarter deck 6 or 8 4 pdr. guns.
Crew 800.


After completing under command of Martyn Petrovich Gosseler.
She was the first Russian three-decked warship, and after completing a unit of the Baltic Fleet..
May 1719 took part in the Kronshtadt raid.
23 May 1719 drifted ashore and sunk on Kronshtadt roads, she was salvaged and repaired, returning back to service in July 1720.
During 1721 and 1723/24 made training cruises in the Baltic visited Reval (Tallinn) and escorted the INGERMANLAND to Rogervik.
1723 Command was taken over by Vitus Bering.
Out of commission.
When tension raised during the Holstein Question there were plans to commission her again, but this never happened.
After 1730 used only for short cruises, but mostly used for duty as a stationary ship in Kronshtadt Roads.
1733 She sank at anchor, but still listed in the Russian Naval List for prestige purpose.
09 October 1741 the wreck was destroyed by a storm and broken apart.
