BOEIER

In English a BOYER a ships type used as a flat bottomed shallow drafted coaster in the 16th and 17th century, she was first mentioned in Dutch and German sources around the 15th century.
The name is most probably from the verb. “boyen, boeyen, boeien” which means to raise the sides of a ship with planks.
Used in the trade from the Netherlands to the Baltic, Germany, U.K. and to French ports on the Seine and the Sonne.
Tonnage around the 120 tons with one mast and a sprit rig with a fore course, a mizzen mast with a lateen sail. Carried leeboards.
Crew 5-6 men.
The BOEIER depict on the stamp is an inland cargo vessel and used after the 17th century on the Dutch inland waterways, carrying all kind of cargo.
A one masted vessel with a boomed mainsail and a fore course. Fitted out with leeboards.
Nowadays the type still exists but used as a pleasure yacht.
