Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 246 by Naval Construction and Armaments Co. Ltd. at Barrow, U.K. for the Cayzer, Irvine & Co., Glasgow (the British Clan Line).
02 April 1896 launched under the name CLAN LINDSAY.
Tonnage 2,668 gross, 1,705 net, dim. 312.3 x 40.2 x 25.5ft.
Powered by a 3-cyl. Triple expansion steam engine, manufactured by shipbuilder, 330 nhp., speed?
April 1896 delivered to owners.

20 March 1898 wrecked without loss of live when under command of Captain. J Schofield on the (now Clan Lindsay rocks) in Mazeppa Bay on the Transkei coast when underway from the River Clyde and Liverpool to Mauritius loaded with a general cargo.
