Sail number 54 in the race and the eighth yacht to cross the finishing line after an elapsed time of28 days 12 hours and 54 minutes. Arriving on 16th july 1972 at 00.54 b.s.t. winning the Observer trophy for the first yacht of 35ft or under to finish.
Crewed by Alain Gliksman. Toucan has a length of 34.5ft and displaces only 2 tons with a freeboard of 1ft.
He started favourite to win the trophy for the smaller yacht class.

This TOUCAN was specially built by René Luthi's shipyard, for the French navigator, Alain Gliksman, who was looking for a boat to participate in the British single-handed Transat of 1972. He was seduced by this hull which "more resembled a projectile than a deep-sea yacht ". After winning the Great Race of the Week in Marseille, he faced the Atlantic, from Plymouth in England to Newport in the United States. He finished brilliantly 8th, after 29 days at sea, behind Alain Colas' Pen Duick IV, who won this legendary solo crossing.

Back at the end of 1972 at the Naval Luthi shipyard, after having crossed the Atlantic again, she was purchased in 1973 by Edouard-Henri Fischer de Prangins for his sons Pierre-Edouard and Marc. In 1974, "LE TRANSAT" won the 1st single-handed Translémanique on Lake Geneva, helmed by our multiple champion, Philippe Dürr from Versoix.

He subsequently took part in many regattas on Lake Geneva, including around thirty Bol d'Or and also won regattas at the time, such as the Grandbordenuy and the solo Rolle-Thonon-Rolle crossing. Pierre-Edouard Fischer has always remained faithful to his "Transat" on which he regularly invites his friend Alain Gliksman to sail on Lake Geneva, in the company of his other loyal friends and crew, Gérard, Jean, André, Peter, Markus and Urs.
2012 "LE TRANSAT" still sails with the same rig and has kept the same appearance it had in 1972.
