Length 103.1m Breadth 19.4m Depth 6.6m Gross tonnage 5662

Owned by Northern Contractors International Ltd and operated by Cable & Wireless as a cable layer. Underwent a major refit in 1992 which included lengthening her by 13m. Sold to Sino British Submarine Systems in 1995 and renamed FU LAI. Based at Shanghai for cable maintenance in the area. Operated by Global Marine Ltd.

Built as a supply ship/pipe carrier/ cable ship under yard No 156 by FEAB-Marstrand, Norway for Ugland Management Co. A.S., Grimstad, Norway.
Launched as the FLEXSERVICE 3.
Tonnage open/closed shelterdecker, 1,591/2,989 grt, 496/1.090 net, 3,700 dwt. Dim. 85.32 x 19.44 x 5.13/8.36m. (draught), length bpp.75.21m.
Powered by two Wärtsilä diesel engines, 7,418 hp, twin controllable pitch propellers, speed 12 knots.
Two Azimuth truster Azipull forward and two aft.
05 June 1982 completed.

First used for offshore oil related work

An important job was in September 1987 the laying of an 8000 circuit optic glass-fibre cable from Port Grenaugh, Isle of Man and Silecroft, Cumbria U.K. The work including ploughing of a 6 meter deep trench, laying the cable in the trench and burry the cable afterwards.
The same year she laid a cable from the U.K. to the Netherlands.
1990 Reported as owned by Northern Contractors International Ltd.
1992 TAT 11 cable.

1993 Lengthened and converted in a cable ship by Smith’s Dock., Middlesbrough U.K. Tonnage increased to 5.662 grt, 1,698 net, 5,825 ton, lengthened to 107.2 m., length bpp 95.9m.
Three tanks were fitted in with a capacity of 3,200 tons of cable
1995 Laid cable from China to Korea.
1995 T-V-H; laid Vietnam to Hong Kong section.

1996 Sold to Sino British Submarine Systems Co. The Bahamas, owned by SB Submarine Systems, Shanghai, China.

1997 Laid with other cable ships the FLAG cable.
1999 Laid with other cable ships the SEA ME WE cable.
2001 Laid a cable from China to the USA.

1998 Renamed in FU LAI for a long charter contract with China telecom. Based at Shanghai for cable repair work under the Yokohama Cable Maintenance Agreement.

2006 Sold to Dulam International Ltd, renamed in DULAM PROVIDENCE.
2007 Sold to HAL Offshore Ltd. New Delhi, renamed HAL ANANT.

2022 In-service same owners, Indian flag, and registry. IMO No 8107098.
