Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard No 732 by N.V. Dok- en Werfmaatschappij Wilton-Fijenoord, Schiedam for the Nederlandsche Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij, Rotterdam.
17 December 1949 laid down.
The intention was to build her as a cargo vessel but during building it was decided to redesign in a passengership.
18 December 1950 launched under the name DINTELDIJK, christened by Mrs. C. Tjarda van Stakenborg Stachouwer-Marburg the spouse of the pre-war Governor General of the Dutch East Indies.
Tonnage 15,015 grt, 10,156 net, 6,975 dwt., dim. 153.3 x 21.0 x 12.8m., length bpp. 145.0m.
Powered by two General Electric steam turbines, geared to single shaft, 8,500 shp., speed 16.5 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 39 first class and 854 tourist passengers and 304 crew.
10 July 1951she was delivered under the name RYNDAM,
16 July 1951 maiden voyage from Rotterdam to New York.
1956 Fitted out with Denny Brown stabilizers.
1964 Used for a round the world cruise with around 600 passengers on board.
February 1966 refitted on the Norddeutscher Lloyd, Bremerhaven, and transferred to the German subsidiary of the H.A.L. as replacement of the SEVEN SEAS.
From 14 September until 1966 under German flag and German crew used in the Europa Canada Line GmbH, Bremen. Not renamed.
20 October 1966 first voyage as a floating university for the Chapman College. 28 September 1967 she made her last voyage for the Chapman College.
September 1967 transferred to the N.V. Scheepvaart Maatschappij “Trans-Oceaan” in s-Gravenhage, Netherlands. Accommodation for 925 passengers.
May 1968 renamed in WATERMAN by the owners.
September 1968 renamed again in RYNDAM in New York by owners.
June 1971 laid up at Schiedam, Netherland.
18 August 1972 sold to Epirotiki Steamship Navigation Co. (World Wide Cruises SA), Piraeus, Greece. Renamed ATLAS.
Extensively refitted in Piraeus, bow line changed and alternations made on her superstructure, to let her look more streamlined.
Tonnage 9,114 grt, 7,069 net, 7,069 dwt. Dim. 153.42 x 21.09 x 12.81m.
03 May 1973 completed.
05 May made her first cruise in the Mediterranean.
1981 Transferred to the Hellenic Company for Mediterranean Cruises SA (Epirotiki), Piraeus, with the intention to rename her in ROYAL PRICE, but she kept her name ATLAS.
1988 Sold to Pride Cruise Lines Ltd., Nassau, Bahamas, renamed in PRIDE OF MISSISSIPPI.
24 December 1988 left from Piraeus for the Mexican Gulf, to make short cruises as a floating casino out of Gulfport, Mississippi.
1991 Transferred to Gulfside Casinos Inc., Galveston, Texas, (still owned by Pride Cruise Lines Ltd.) renamed PRIDE OF GALVESTON.
After some time laid up at Galveston.
1993 Moored at Biloxi, Mississippi and renamed COPA CASINO and used as a floating casino there.
When the owners adopted a more permanent structure, a decision was made that she should be scrapped. She was laid up at Mobile.
03 March 2003 left Mobile under tow of the tug FAIRPLAY XIV bound for the scrap-yard in Alang, India, she sank 16 March 2003 off the coast of the Dominican Republic after getting into difficulties due to the weather. The tug cut the towing wire, where after about four hour later she sank.
