AMERICA³ yacht

Built as a carbon fiber hulled yacht the hull was built by Goetz Custom Sailboatd, Inc. at Bristol , Rhode Island for the America³ Foundation, West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.
February 1992 launched as the AMRICA³.
Displacement 21.97 ton. Dim. 23.77 x 5.45 x 3.96m. (draught), length on waterline 18.31m.
Sail area 295.6 m²
Sail number USA-23.

From January to April 1992 she took part in the defender selection under skipper Bill Koch in which 11 races were sailed against four contenders AMERICA ³ won 7 races and she was the official defender for the America Cup 1992 against the Italian yacht IL MORO DI VENEZIA.
The America Cup races were held at San Diego between 9 and 16 May 1992 in which the AMERICA³ raced against the challenger IL MORO DI VENEZIA.
Five races were sailed over a distance of 22.6 miles off San Diego in which the AMERICA³ beat IL MOR DI VENEZIA by four wins to one.

1994 Was she used by an all female team, first as a training boat then sailed in the IACC World 1994 Championship in San Diego, where she finished as second.

From 13 January till 24 February 1995 used in the defence selection races for the America Cup under skipper Dawn Rilley.
In her first race she defeated the STARS & STRIPES by 1 minute and 16 seconds.
The second race against the YOUNG AMERICA she won, also in the third round she won again from the STARS & STRIPES.
Altogether she raced 16 times but won only three races and was out of the defender trials.

1999 She was bought by the Prada Challenge in order to sail in Auckland as a trial horse for LUNA ROSSA.
2001 She was bought by her first skipper Bill Koch, and she was restored to her original 1992 configuration.
The same year she sailed in the America’s Cup Jubilee races at Cowes in August 2001.

From 31 August till 13 November 2005 she was on display at the Boston Museum of Fine Art.

2006 Was she still owned by Bill Koch with homeport Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

2010 She is now on permanent display on a dry berth outside the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island.

Guinea 1992 100f sg1505, scott1205. 400f sg1510, scott1210. Mr Jung gives that also in 2009 the 400F stamp was used again with overprint, but I have not seen this stamp.

Grenadines of St Vincent 1992 $1 sg?, scott949.
St Vincent 1992 75c sg2160, scott1749. ( the yacht depict is the AMERICA of 1851, only the skipper Bill Koch is depict of the yacht AMERICA³.)
