I am currently typing one (left) -handed so will keep this short. Are there any stamps featuring the "Athenia"?

Hi Andy,

It seems not at the moment, the only reference to the Athenia is in this post:

http://www.shipstamps.co.uk/forum/viewt ... nia#p10026
28 December 1939 torpedoed by U-30 below Canteen Flat off Flannen Isles and damaged. The U-30 was under command of Kptl Fritz Julius Lemp, which torpedoed also the liner ATHENIA.
Hopefully John or Auke will see this and they will be able to see if they know of any stamps featuring this ship.

Regards,

Jim

Totally irrelevent - yesterday I was watching an old, short film of shipping and shipbuilding on the River Clyde ("The River Clyde - A Survey of Scotland's Greatest River", 1939) and the Athenia drifted across the screen full of happy smiling passengers. Given the ship's fate I found it quite moving - even though the shot only lasted seconds.

Re whether there is a stamp showing Athenia it is worth mentioning Grenada 1990 SG MS 2119

The MS shows U 30 which sank the Athenia. In the background is a liner. Some doubt has been expressed if the ship shown in the background of the miniature sheet is a true likeness of the Athenia. The Athenia had only one funnel whereas in the picture she would appear to have two.

Hi
I will look out for the Grenada stamp as it sounds interesting.

Thanks
