La POSTE yacht 1993

Built as maxi yacht by GIE Décission part of the Bénéteau group for the French Post Office.
06 February 1993 launched under the name La POSTE.
Displacement 29.5 ton, dim. 25.90 x 5.85m.
Sail area 8,930 sq. ft. Ketch rigged.
Crew 16 – 18.
Built of carbon epoxy – nomex.
The yacht was designed by Bruce Farr for the 1993 – 1994 Whitbread Round the World Race.
First she took part in the 1993 Fastnet Race where she ended in the 5th place.
25 September 1993 she left Southampton, England under skipper Daniel Malle for her first leg in this race.
Half of her crew were French postal service personnel.
03 December in the southern Indian Ocean she returned and battling a 50 knots wind, searching for the Italian yacht BROOKSFIELD, which had send out a SOS she was filled with water She found the yacht on 04 December she needed dry matches to prepare a hot meal, the La POSTE escorted it towards Fremantle for two days.
During the stopover in Fremantle, Australia skipper Malle was replaced by the famous French sailing hero Eric Tabarly.
While in Punta del Este Uruguay during the fourth leg stopover, two of its crew and two men of the shore team members were jailed. They caught a burglar in their house they used during the stopover. They beat them and detained him for several hours. They were charged with assault.
The La POSTE sailed on 02 April 1994 from Punta del Este without the two crew members.
The La POSTE finished the race as 7th in a time of 123 days, 22 hours 54 minutes.
After the race her career is obscure, can not find much on her, only that she still under the name La POSTE is used as a charter yacht in Norway in 2011 and is for sale.
