NARAI SONG SUBAN Royal Barge

The original Royal Barge NARAI SONG SUBAN was one of the principal Royal Barges and built during the Ayutthaya period by King Maha Chakrapat (1548-1568) who had turned a regular barge, used to transport troops and supplies into a fast armed barge by installing cannons at the prow.
Her bow was carved in the shape of the King of Garudas in full flight thereby signifying that the King was on board.
The present Royal Barge NARAI SONG SUBAN and depict on the stamp is a replica and built during the reign of the present King of Thailand Bhumipol Adulyadej and she was constructed to commemorate the Kings 50th Anniversary to the throne. She was built for the Royal Thai Navy and the Thai Department of Fine Arts.
Keel laid down in 1994.
06 May 1996 launched as the NARAI SONG SUBAN
She is considered a secondary royal barge.
The barge weight 20 tons with dimensions of 44.30 x 3.20 x 1,10m
Crew 50 rowers and two steersmen.
2011 In service.
