CRYSTAL HARMONY / ASUKA II

Built as a cruise vessel under yard No 2100 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki, Japan for the Crystal Ship Corporation, Bahamas, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) She will be managed by Crystal Cruises Inc., Los Angeles.

30 September 1989 launched as the CRYSTAL HARMONY.
Tonnage 48,621 grt, 20,289 net, 8.642 dwt. Dim. 240.96 x 29.84 x 34.47m. length bpp.205m, draught 7.30m.
Powered diesel electric by four 8-cyl. MAN-Mitsubishi diesel engines each 11,750 bhp, geared to four generators each 8,200 kW, and two electro motors, 24,000 kW, twin shafts, speed 22 knots.
Two bow thrusters and a pair of stabilisers are fitted in
Accommodation for 960 passengers. Crew 460
21 June 1990 completed.
July 1990 at Los Angeles the vessel was christened by the American actress Mary Tyler Moore.
She made first some summer cruises from the west coast of America to Alaska.
During the winter season she made some cruise voyages from the west coast of America via the Panama Canal to the Caribbean and South America.
October 1990 due to water entering the engine systems she lost power off the Colombian coast, after three days she was towed to Curacao to the dry-dock and repair.
1995 Was she dry-docked by the Blohm & Voss yard in Hamburg and underwent a modernisation.
24 April 2006 was she transferred to the Nippon Nippon Yusen Kaisha Cruises Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan and renamed ASUKA II.
After she underwent some renovations again used for cruises. Managed by NYK Cruises, Tokyo
2012 As given Class NK, in service, same owners, she is 50,142 grt, 20.880 net, 8,642 dwt. Imo No 8806204 .
Most cruises are short cruises in the Far East from Japan.
Port of registry Yokohama, Japan.
